Devlog 2:B (DONE BY EMMA THORNEWELL)

New Features:

  • Tilemap and Collisions in the overworld scene.
  • 2D lighting and URP.
  • Main Menu System.

Overworld Scene

I created the overworld using Unity’s Tile map system, adding colliders to the tiles to ensure the player interacts realistically with the environment, such as preventing movement through walls or certain obstacles. I also used URP to enhance the scene with 2D lighting, giving the game some more visual depth. This creates shadows and dynamic lighting that respond to the player's movement.

Main Menu System

I created a new start scene that holds multiple buttons, each linking to different parts of the game.  The new game and continue buttons currently direct players to the overworld scene. In time, the continue button will have a different functionality, which will be loading the saved data. I created a credits scene that displays information about the development team, including programmer names and their student numbers. The exit button also works when clicked, closing not only the game but the playback scene as well. Lastly, each button has a hover and click feedback, which changes apperance depending on what the player is doing.
